Liberty Mncube
Professor Liberty Macebo Mncube is an Associate Professor of Economics at the School of Economics and Finance - University of the Witwatersrand.
Professor Mncube is a Member of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa in 2019). He also served as a Member of the Ministerial Advisory Panel tasked with developing Draft Amendments to the Competition Act (2017/18).
He served as Chief Economist of Competition Commission of South Africa between January 2014 to February 2019. Professor Mncube has provided expert testimony on behalf of the Competition Commission and private parties in merger control, abuse of dominance, collusion, and private damages cases.
His research focuses on economic regulation and competition policy and has published widely in these fields. He has extensive experience in teaching competition policy (to lawyers, economists, competition agency officials, and in, undergraduate, graduate, and executive courses). He received his PhD in Economics from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
